National Day

Finally, probably the most important holiday on this island. The national day.

The day where everyone (at least, almost all) celebrate the day which Singapore obtained independence from Malaysia.

So, coming from a place where we celebrate our independence day (more like hand-over) by organising huge rallies on the street, Singapore does welcome an open change.

At least, we get to see all the stuff the army has, all the soldiers, Guard of Honour, and so on. The marching part, the fly pass...

They are all pretty neat.

However, as with every year, the concert was a total yawn.

It pretty much talks about how Singapore became independent, how it became the nation it is today. How that guy saw a lion and names Singapore "Singapura".

I wonder what would have happened if he saw a pig instead?

Babe-Pura? O_o

Never mind....

In any case, the concert went on, until this year's Theme song was played, sang by Rui En and Taufik.

And surprise surprise, I think I saw Taufik's mouth movements was around 2 seconds off from the song, around the time when the two of them were on the platform.

Make your own conclusions.

Perhaps, it's technology's fault.

Maybe it is.

Then again, I asked around in SGSB, and it seems like that isn't the only song which was lip synched. Uniquely Singapore was also lip synched, according to the board members.

Why do stars need to lip synch? If they have talent, can't they just sing? I mean, this person in question won a freaking star search, for god's sake! Why does he need to pretend to sing, when he can do so?

No wonder people are downloading more songs these days. Everyone wants to review the singers, before buying their music. It would totally suck if you have spent $20 buying a CD, only to find that the singer is rubbish.

And now, more and more singers are lip synching on stage. Probably because, as anyone who has gone to a concert will know, the song sounds different when sang live, compared to one sang in a studio.

If singers cannot afford to let the world hear their real voice, they should not be called singers. People who hide behind the mask of technology should never become stars, since they are nothing without technology.

I was rather disappointed with Taufik though.

Perhaps he will do it better next time.

Perhaps.
